Mexico City’s Salón ACME Shines a Spotlight on Emerging Creatives

In the heart of Mexico City, amidst the bustling art scene, lies Salón ACME—a vibrant hub that celebrates the talents of emerging creatives. This renowned art fair, now in its 12th edition, is a focal point of Mexico City Art Week, drawing in art enthusiasts from far and wide. Unlike traditional art fairs, Salón ACME showcases not only visual artists but also literature, music, performance, and even gastronomy, creating a rich tapestry of creativity.

Hosted by Proyectos Públicos in an enchanting venue—a historic house dating back to 1905—Salón ACME embodies the essence of contemporary art as a dynamic and ever-evolving entity. Here, various art forms intersect and inspire one another, fostering a creative ecosystem that thrives on diversity and collaboration. Since its inception over a decade ago, the fair has been instrumental in introducing emerging talents to new audiences in an atmosphere that encourages curiosity and connection.

Diving deeper into Salón ACME’s structure, the fair is segmented into six distinct sections: Open Call, Bodega, Guest State, Projects, Patio, and Sala. Each section offers a platform for over 100 creatives from diverse backgrounds to showcase their work and connect with art enthusiasts. Open Call, the centerpiece of Salón ACME, features the creations of 79 carefully selected artists chosen from a pool of 1,800 applications. Meanwhile, the Project section shines a light on 29 galleries, independent spaces, and residency programs, providing a unique space for artists to present their talents in a project room format.

One of the standout installations at Salón ACME is “Milflores” by artist Julieta Gil, located in the Patio section. This immersive artwork explores the intersection of nature and urban life, drawing inspiration from the age-old practice of drying flowers to create a digital mapping of urban vegetation. Through “Milflores,” Gil invites viewers to reflect on the ephemeral nature of life and the human desire to capture and preserve fleeting moments.

In the Bodega section, visitors can experience “From Bed to Living Room,” curated by Enrique Giner de los Ríos. This group exhibition delves into the concept of personal spaces and how they shape our identities through memories, rituals, and physical transformations. By exploring the intimate connection between individuals and their living spaces, the artists in this section offer a poignant reflection on the essence of home.

The Sala section of Salón ACME is dedicated to the world of publishing, featuring a curated showcase titled “Friction Matters.” This collection of printed materials explores the interplay of ideas across the Americas, highlighting the diversity and richness of intellectual discourse in the region.

From Thursday, February 6, to Sunday, February 9, art lovers flocked to General Prim 30, Juárez, to experience the 12th edition of Salón ACME. The fair’s open-door policy welcomed visitors from Mexico City and beyond, creating a vibrant and inclusive space for art appreciation and discovery.

As Salón ACME continues to evolve and showcase the best of emerging creatives, it remains a beacon of innovation and inspiration in the contemporary art world. By providing a platform for diverse voices and artistic expressions, the fair cements its position as a vital force in shaping the future of the art scene.
